Proton Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy along the Pyramidal Tract of Patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

چکیده
Introduction Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease affecting motor neurons in the motor cortex, brainstem and spinal cord (pyramidal tract). Previous studies assessed H spectra in different brain areas in patients with ALS [1, 2]. In this work, we have chosen to compare the spectra from different brain regions along the pyramidal tract, and to correlate the data to different clinical manifestations of the disease.

Proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy of the motor cortex in 70 patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
OBJECTIVE To evaluate proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy for detection and monitoring of upper motoneuron degeneration in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. METHODS Seventy patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis according to the El Escorial criteria were compared with 48 healthy control subjects. Single-volume proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (echo time, 272 milliseco...
متن کاملComprehensive Evaluation of Corticospinal Tract Metabolites in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Using Whole-Brain 1H MR Spectroscopy
Changes in the distribution of the proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) observed metabolites N-acetyl aspartate (NAA), total-choline (Cho), and total-creatine (Cre) in the entire intracranial corticospinal tract (CST) including the primary motor cortex were evaluated in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The study included 38 sporadic definite-ALS subjects and 70 age-mat...
متن کاملMultimodal MRI as a diagnostic biomarker for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
OBJECTIVE Reliable biomarkers for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) are needed, given the clinical heterogeneity of the disease. Here, we provide proof-of-concept for using multimodal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as a diagnostic biomarker for ALS. Specifically, we evaluated the added diagnostic utility of proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) to diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). ME...
متن کاملMagnetic resonance imaging and magnetic resonance spectroscopy in a patient with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and frontotemporal dementia.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) have been investigated in a single neurodegenerative disease manifesting as either amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or frontotemporal dementia (FTD) alone, but have not been examined in combined disorders such as ALS with FTD (ALS-FTD). To our knowledge, this study is the first attempt to demonstrate relationship betw...
متن کاملEvaluation of the effectiveness of positive psychology-based interventions on post-traumatic growth, self-compassion and quality of life in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
Introduction: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a relatively rare disease that can be associated with various mental, physical and psychological burdens. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions based on positive psychology on post-traumatic growth, self-compassion and quality of life in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Methods: This descriptive-...
